My research in linguistics is characterized by two key concepts, emotion and change. I am interested in: how speakers’ emotivity is encoded or nuanced by words and grammatical constructions; how these meanings are linked to other types of concepts (e.g., space, time, physical force); and how linguistic change informs us about the range of expressive possibilities in our everyday cognitive and communicative activities. My current book project Semantic change, causation and emotivity connects these areas of inquiry. My professional aspiration is to make my research, which is largely theoretical and empirical, relevant in educational contexts. To this end, my scholarship extends to critical language awareness, in particular, the learning of the richness of variation and change in Japanese and beyond. 日本語を中心に認知言語学と歴史言語学という領域で、意味変化と認知やコミュニケーションの仕組みの関係について研究を行っています。特に、話者の感情や主観がどのように言語化され他の概念領域（空間、時間、力など）とどのような関わりを持つかに興味があります。現在執筆中のSemantic Change, Causation and Emotivityは、これらの研究領域・設問を統合したものとなります。また、教育言語学、特にクリティカル・ランゲージ・アウェアネス（CLA）の考え方を言語学のコース（日本語の変異と変化）に役立てる研究と授業実践を行なっています。近年は、これら三つの分野を支えるデータサイエンス、特に、データ（マンガ、スクリプト、ウェブテキスト、コーパス等）のモデル化・可視化方法を模索しています。
